The University of Freiburg is a public university established in 1457 A.D. Although the University of Freiburg was founded more than 500 years ago, it is the fifth oldest university in Germany and this university has a long history in teaching the humanities, social and natural sciences.

In 2007 it was named one of the elite universities in Germany through what is known as the Excellence Initiative. It is also one of the member universities of the European Research Universities Association and has a ranking of No. 14 in Germany and No. 267 among universities in the world and is accredited by the German Ministry of Higher Education

In 2020, the University of Freiburg was ranked 86 in the world according to the Times Higher Education, and 169 in the world, according to the QS World University Ranking.
